Long travel to the castles of the desert
  • Tip Rating:
  • The full day trip "Castles of the desert" it's an easy trip (if you travel with conditioned air, as you surely do) but not particularly interesting. You may count on long hours crossing an ugly desert, to see some buildings that are only a little bit more than inexpressive ruins. The exception is Qasr Amrah, a really beautiful building from the 8th century that was not exactly a castle, but a public bath.
The paintings in the walls and roofs are magnificent, and well preserved.
Being only 40 km from Amman, you may consider an exclusive visit, saving you time and kilometres.

    Crossing the border
  • Tip Rating:
  • Make sure you pay for the visa when you enter Jordan. I went with a servise taxi from Damascus to Amman. At the border I went to the visa counter. They looked in my passport and handed it over to someone els who gave me a stamp and then they said it was ready. It was all very quick. I went back to the visa counter, said I hadn't paid for the visa and pointed to the sign on the wall that said Swedish citicens should pay 10 JD. They just laught and waved me away. Then I waited 2 hours for the last person in the taxi to be ready.
Well, on the way back to Syria it was me the other people had to wait for. Something was wrong and I tried to explain what had happened when I entered Jordan. In the end I had to go back to the arrival hall, change money and pay for the visa + for three days more (stayed in Jordan for 17 days but should have reported to the police for a visa ectension after 14 days).

The traffic in Amman is crazy!...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The traffic in Amman is crazy! Look both ways before crossing the street, just like Mom told you to!!

There were some anti-Israeli demonstrations going on the day that I left...Don't let the proximity to Israel keep you from going there, though. Tourism is down, and therefore, lots of prices are lower too. So now is the time to go. Just pay attention to what's going on around you, and if you see a demonstration or something, don't go getting involved in it. Use common sense. The Jordanians are wonderfully warm people. The most often used word that I heard while there was 'Welcome' and they really mean it.

You got to jump into the Dead...
  • Tip Rating:
  • You got to jump into the Dead Sea!!! It is so strange - you are floating on the water. You could read the newspaper while doing nothing.
When you turn on your stomach, like I did on that picture, your feet will stick out of the water and you can't do anything against it!!

be on alert in case of demonstrations

    stop... traffic... danger (?)

there is really absolutely no danger in Jordan. Trust me on this: I walked around at night-time without any hassles or dangers: I'm blond, I'm white, I have green eyes. Some people made some comments, but most just enquired if i was lost or needed any help. However be on alert in case of demonstrations: if they are not authorized by the police, the police will intervene and they are known to hit hard before asking questions. People demostrating are rarely dangerous, but it's wise to have some evident proof either of your political ideas (wear a Palestinian khefia maybe) or your citizenship (be quick in taking out your passport). This last tip, sadly, is not much helpful if you have an Israeli passport i'm afraid.

    Lunch troubles
  • Tip Rating:
  • Traveling in Jordan it's easy, but lunchtime may depend on the journey, so be prepared to start eating from one to six in the afternoon, as we did in our visit to Wadi Rum. Furthermore, road restaurants are not easy to find in most places, and being out, one precaution is absolute: WATER. But if you are in an organized tour, the guide will be aware of it and will help you.

    Bedouin Food
  • Tip Rating:
  • Watch out if you are going to have a feast in Wadi Rum with the Bedouin.
Firstly, its difficult if you are a veggie. You will most likely get served Mansuf.
The recipe for this seems to be : kill a lamb, chop it into huge pieces, boil it, serve with rice including gristle fat and bone.
I found it most unappetising even as a meat eater. If you finish your plate you will get more shovelled on.
Maybe because it gave me food poisoning the next day and there were no toilets where we we camped, I might have gotten a biased view on it!

    Hot Amman
  • Tip Rating:
  • August is the Hotest month of the summer in the Middle East
Please get ready to have really bad feelings from the hot weather if your choosing to visit Amman in this time!
especially if you are in a car going to the old city of Amman and in Rush hour!
better to wear the suitable clothes and having a fan in your hand with glasses and a hat!
    be patient it worth anyway!

    Jordan: Corruption Of Police
  • Tip Rating:
  • Travel - Warnung for Jordan: Mid - east (nuclear-)war might be ahead !
The Police in Jordan in Jordan is underpaid and like to be corrupt like nearly everywhere Now.

If you travel from Syria, you get with european passport a month-visa at the border, they take thumb and picture of now directly to FBI and CIA to the US, no problem for normal people.

You have to visit the nearest police-station within one month to extend for two further month.
I came one day before, but the police-officer excused for 'on holiday' and to come back on Saturday. Getting there he was asking for overstaying: Money ( for his Pocket?)
I refused and missed the ship, because they denied exit before paying 48 JD fine.

On Landway to Eilath happened the same on Landborder. The Borderpolice in Aqba refused
to accept the complain, so the Aqba-Townpolice, the Wali ( Governor of the King) and finally
the secret-police, Muhabbarat, but they told, the matter is settled and no problem with Exit.
    The Opposite happened:
Getting again to the Harbour, the little Borderpoliceman told, i was not allowed, to enter the harbour-area without paying in advance.

Being shocked and asking the Lord for Help a Beduin appeared and offered Help, took the Passport for checking and collected now the money from the POOR people and organised everything. Great Blessings for the POOR-ones !

The shame is on KING ABDALLAH , descendant of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and Chief of the lying and cheating Police of Jordan.
Jordan has two Allah, since Everyone knows, there is only ONE, one must be a lier, all his Staff turned to be Liers, so King Abdallah might be one of them, called DAJJAL, the King of Liers.
