  • Oldie worldie traditional hotel.
Very traditional & lots of space for us to pack our parachutes in the lobby !
    Nice swimming pooll
Everything so handy to the shops & markets.
Our group would split up each day & go on tours toplaces of interest -- that's when we were not jumping !

One had a feeling of safety here & women could walk alone on the street at night.
Cafes everywhere so good selection of food.

Our tour was prepaid so I can't quote prices, it's so long ago.!

We decided to camp about 2 hours walk away from the Park Base. We got the camels there and walked back in the morning. We didnt have tents. Everyone had sleeping bags except me. I was well rugged up but didnt sleep as it was too cold. As we camped uder a tree everytime I nerly fell asleep bats would fly in!
The Bedouin option is they just have tents anyway that are there for which they charge you. As such it is just like any tent stay.

    Government Camping: Desert Camping
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We stayed in a 2 person ridge tent, supplied by the Government Resthouse. Very cold, but as there is no other accommodation at Wadi Rum, there is not much choice.

Showers & loos are in the Resthouse.

The tents are very cheap to hire (although we did not need to pay for ours!) and its also possible to hire bedding

Sunset Camp, run by a man called Mohammed: Bedoiun "hospitality" falls a little short
  • Satisfaction:
  • This was the most expensive accomodation we forked out for over two weeks in the region, and the beautiful desert aside, it was pretty awful.

The tents themselves were fine, but the "authentic bedoiun food" all tasted like it had been boiled in kerosene, and had us burping up petrochemicals for the entire evening.

The camp site ran out of water early on, and we had nothing to drink but the occasional thimble full of very sweet tea. Breakfast was pretty scant, as by the time we got there at 7.30, those who had slept out in the sandstorm for the whole night had eaten and drunk almost everything.

We only went to this campsite because we were heatstruck and hooked up with a bloke who had a certain blue-themed guidebook that recommended it, albeit some years ago. Methinks this may be a good example of positive publicity spoiling an otherwise okay experience.

Lovely views of the desert. But you can get them all over the place.

    a tent....: bedouin tent
  • Satisfaction:
  • any overnight tour organized by the tourist office will arrange a stay in a bedouin camp. To be honest is not the kind of experience I was expecting, as I did not really live a bedouin experience. The owner of the tent was extremely nice and a good cook but the exchange of words were limited to the food and sleeping organization.we tried to chat with him, his english was ok, but he was not really intersted in explaining the way people used to live and still live around here. However the experience was great sunrise and sunsets were amazing.
Even though jordanians are the nicest people i have met i still would warn girls travelling alone to be with somebody; being alone with a couple of guys in the middle of nowhere could be unconfortable.
