 | Jordan Reviews | Tips 41 - 50 of 131 | | JD. 2,5 per person. (Jordanian dinars)
Accomodation in Jordan is pricier than in Egypt or Syria, and even budget places can be as expensive as mid range places in Egypt (like Dahab) or Hama (Syria). Anyway, in Amman I stayed at GRAND HOTEL BAGHDAD where a spacious room with a small balcony costed JD. 2,50 per person (US$3,60). No rooms have private bathroom, but the shared ones are acceptable and clean, hot water is reliable an all-day round and there's the possibility to use the kitchen to cook oneself (anyway, I always carry an MSR multifuel stove). The hotel was undergoing a general refurbishment, as the new owner (Osama) wanted to promote it as a traveller's budget hotel with good quality. There were rooms looking at inner alleyways at JD.2 per person. The management and personnel were extremely friendly and helpful, and being there was a real joy, as I had the opportunity to meet several Palestinians, Syrians and even a family of Iraqi refugees on their way to Sweden. We shared several nights looking at the TV news when combats between Israelis and Palestinians were at their height (March 2002), and seeing their reactions and opinions was unusual and interesting. For a South American like me, it was a real privilege to get that first hand impressions while sipping a tea. My stay there was a very nice experience, both with the hotel staff as well as with Middle Eastern guests. This hotel was booked for me so I had no choice: I stayed at the Petra Palace. It's nice in a standard way - a bit too nice for my taste actually, but at least near the ruins of the old city and next door to an (overpriced) internet café.
The best thing about this hotel is its bar: no one sat there except the barman: a friendly man who loves to talk politics. I had a and couple of really interesting evenings there Leave a Comment Theme: HotelComparison: about averageAddress: Wadi Mousa, PetraPhone: 962 3 21 56723Directions: on main street, before it starts to go uphillWebsite: www.petrapalace.com.jo/ Other Contact: ppwnwm@go.com.jo

I was not quite so lucky with our choice of basic accommodation in Jordan as we were in Egypt. I have never had so many bites on me from one night in a Hostel in Amman. Apologies for not remembering the name of it, but you know it if you have been there! there is a Music stall outside it if that helps you avoid it. I have to say I would not stay in any of the Hostels I stayed in in Jordan. The standard seems a lot lower than places like Egypt & Israel Leave a Comment

It was all prepaid so I don't remember what it was.
I have a correction to make.! The correct name of this hotel is : Hotel Alcazar ! Sorry about this. This hotel portrays the mystique of bygone days & makes one really feel that one is in the East. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelComparison: about averageAddress: Aqaba

We stayed at an Aquaba Hostel that had dorm facilities on the roof, no walls and a corrugated iron roof to keep the sun and rain off. Rather similar to a 'marae' you were allocated a mattress on the floor. The bonuses included the uninterupted views of the gulf and the sea breezes.
The marae like setup Leave a Comment Theme: HostelComparison: least expensiveAddress: Aquaba

Wadi Rum, Roof top bliss. There is only one hotel in Wadi Rum, you can choose to camp in its yard, get a room, or, as we did, sleep on the roof. There were mats up there to soften our sleep, and the stars overhead were our nightlights. It was beautiful, peaceful...and there were no mosquitoes!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

These were our digs in Petra, a hostel called Twaissi Inn (205 Wadi Mousa tel-03-2156423). Again, we opted for the cheapest room - the roof. This friendly hostel offered free transportation to Petra, although it is also in walking distance. They also had nightly movies (Don't you dare ask for Indiana Jones, they are sick of it!), delicious meals, and internet access. This was again a good, comfortable night's rest, although don't plan on sleeping in as some of the early morning sounds you will hear are, donkey's braying, vehicles, muslim sunrise prayers, roosters etc. Kind of nice though to lie there warm and cozy and take in the atmosphere.
