In Amman, I suggest to choose one of the small hotels around Al Hussein mosque. They provide basic accommodation, but the location is great. Beside the muezzin sound, you’ll find the “real life” running: shops, small markets, business, prayers, people and … taxis, of course. I stayed in Asri hotel, Petra street; basic, clean, friendly staff. About 12 JD the double. In Petra try Petra Moon Hotel, at Wadi Mousa, close to the visitor centre. The location allow you to start your visit to Petra early in the morning and go back late in the evening, without extra walking. The manager is a nice man who can help in arranging tour around Jordan. Not to forget the heating; radiators were boiling all the day and night. Easy to dry your clothes. About 25 JD the double. In Madaba you can choose between Madaba hotel, basic, cheap, friendly atmosphere, and Black Iris hotel. This one is a bit more expensive, about 25 JD, but more comfortable. The owner can entertain you with political matters for hours, … and the breakfast is delicious. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Captain is a type of campsite in the desert. Next to the mountains, the haimas are big and very comfortable. They served a buffet there and after the dinner they played music. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Wadi Rum desert

It was cheap and cheerfull but very small. Alex and I shared a room with an old Jordainian Lady, The owner was quite comical as he slept outside the girls (our) dorm door to make sure there was no "funny Business" There is a also kitchen you can use Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averagePhone: 351942Directions: Centre of Karak town (Karak isnt big)

Our stay in the Sunset Hotel was fine, I cant really remember much about it, so it must have been ok. With getting up at 5.30 in the morning to be at petra for opening at 6am, we really didnt spend much time there.
So close to Petra Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Near the entrance gate to Petra

I didnt actually do this although I would have loved to. Some American and Danish friends of mine, stayed in Petra after dark and actually set up camp and stayed the night within Petra itself. It is not allowed, but they got away with it & what a wonderful memory they are left with. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Hidden Away In Petra

We stayed in a 2 person ridge tent, supplied by the Government Resthouse. Very cold, but as there is no other accommodation at Wadi Rum, there is not much choice. Showers & loos are in the Resthouse. The tents are very cheap to hire (although we did not need to pay for ours!) and its also possible to hire bedding.
It was free! Leave a Comment Theme: CampgroundPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Behind The Government Resthouse

Certainly not the best hostel I have stayed in, the Stinky Squat loos were just disgustingly filthy. I wont be going back there again...............EVER! I know and appreciate that when you stay in buget/backpacker accommodaion you should not expect more than just the basics, and I dont. But waking up with covered in what I assume were bed bug bites, isnt the greatest feeling...............Ugh! I was surprised, as the Cliff Hotel had come well recommended by the guide book we were using for our backpacking trip around Jordan. Maybe I was just very unlucky.......................
