al-Saraya: VTer's Hotel...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Their service is very good. The manager is a VTer sarhot. (Fayez) He is a very nice guy. If you have any question, you can just ask hime wheather in his hotel or on the Internet.
He can speak fluent English, Italian and some French, but not even a single Chinese. :-)
Their room is clean with aircon and a private bathroom. The price JD14 includes tax, breakfast and some service. Internet in the hotel charges JD1 per hour, but sadly it's only Win98 which cannot display a lot of languages.

The thing that I love about this hotel is its location. Very close to Roman Theatre. And within walking distance, you can easily arrive Downtown Amman.
If you don't like the Internet service in hotel, just take a short walk to Internet cafe nearby. But they are just like other Jordanians, they accept only cash, including Jordan Dinar, US dollars, Euro, Saudi Ryriah. They also have a pick-up service from Queen Alia International Airport, which is JD15.
They also do some within Jordan trip or Iraq trip. Just simply ask Mr. Fayez, he will arrange it for you.

Marriott Jordan Valley Resort: Sea or spa?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This really is a splurge but, if the budget will stretch, you will enjoy it. Very new, and very opulent, the Jordan Valley Marriott is totally geared to pleasure. Whether you take your salt scrub in the Dead Sea itself or in the luxurious spa, it's very invigorating and you know it must be doing you good. Ask for a room on the pool side - the view is better. Weekends can be very busy indeed, the hotel is usually full then but if that is the only night you have, avoid the north sea-side rooms if you want a good night's sleep -the disco is on that side!

There are several restaurants and bars to choose from, 3 swimming pools and a beautiful spa. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with deep balconies - it's exactly as you would expect a 5 star hotel to be. What makes it different from a thousand other similar resorts is the Dead Sea itself. There isn't another place on earth like it.

    Abjar: Pleasant city hotel
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • A quiet, convenient location, clean good-sized rooms and helpful staff make the Abjar a good choice mid-range hotel in Amman. There is a restaurant, coffee shop and swimming pool and the hotel is only a short walk from the King Abdullah Mosque. Other places you might wish to visit are just a short taxi ride away - a dollar at most.

Best Western Dove Hotel: Welcome, comfortable rest
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Yes, the rooms were comfortable, but they were a bit shabby and tired - but then, so were we after arriving in Amman at 2am and losing a suitcase on the way! We were very glad of a comfortable bed and a hot shower when we woke. Breakfast was fine next morning, the staff were helpful and efficient and we were on our way. The Best Western Dove is an unpretentious city hotel, perfectly adequate for a night or two.

UPDATE: THIS HOTEL IS NOW CLOSED! Please contact Fayez at his new hotel: New Park Hotel in Amman, I'm sure the service is 5*, as well.

    **********************************

We stayed at this hotel for three wonderful nights. According to The Jordan Hotel Association this is a one-star hotel. I will agree, it is one star, with SEVEN-star (*******)hospitality. I am not kidding, Mr. Fayez Al-Kayyali made our entire trip with his warmth, knowledge and openness. We spent many hours drinking tea or wine, smoking cigars (my husband!) and talking about politics and travel in the area, as well as many other topics.

We enjoyed our time with Fayez at the Al-Saraya Hotel so much that on our last night in Jordan, after traveling to Syria, Israel and Petra, we took a taxi from Petra to see Fayez one last time before going to the airport. He even gave us a key to a room for a short time so we could change our clothes from touring Petra all day. For that evening, he arranged a dinner with many hotel guests and 12 of us had banquet style meal together dining on hummus, lamb, grilled vegetables, falafel, etc. We shared stories and travel tips. It was a fantastic night.

It's important that you know how genuine Fayez and all the people we encountered in Jordan are. When we return to Amman to visit other sites unseen in the area, we will definitely stay here again.

There are 52 rooms in this hotel and we had a room on the third floor in the back of the hotel that was away from street noise, AM prayers and had an excellent view of King Abdallah's compound.

There is a front desk staff that is helpful and willing to mail postcards back home for you and an elevator for those too tired to take the stairs to their room. *Wake up phone call is available too. *Each floor has a sitting area for you to rest should you find that Fayez is not in his office, as I highly recommend you to pay a visit to him in his office for a cup of tea and chat. *Breakfast is available each morning, however, we rose too early each day to take advantage. Take him up on his restaurant recommendations!!! FYI: There is also a small shop across the street from the hotel to buy water, pop, chocolate, chips, etc. And a falafel stand selling bags for mere cents!

The bed was comfortable, the TV had two or three satellite channels in English. The shower was hot, soap and shampoo are provided. The bathroom has a bidet although it was not used, so I am unsure if it operates well. We were there in winter so the heating was fine. The rooms have A/C, as well.

HOTEL IS HELPFUL WITH DAYTRIP OPTIONS:
Fayez has many friends and contacts and will put a driver and good price together for you to travel to Petra or Damascus, Syria (for the day like we did) or to Jerash or even the King Hussein Bridge (like we did).

    PRICES:
-->Airport pickup is available for 15JD. (approx. $21usd)
-->Hotel's nightly rate was 18JD w/breakfast and taxes included. (approx. $26usd)
-->The hotel also offers Internet for 1JD. (approx. $1.5usd)

He accepts cash in various currencies and will hold your bags should you need to continue touring before trotting off to the airport. And lastly, *Fayez has printed business cards with his hotel contact information in English on one side and in Arabic on the other. This comes in handy when you're out and about hailing a cab and the driver is unsure about the hotel's location. :)

This nice 4 stars hotel is locate in Amman, just few minutes by walk by the Sports City. Rooms are located on 6 floors. They all have marble bathrooms with bidet, hand held shower, in addition to a fixed shower and a hair dryer. Bedrooms are fully air-conditioned, mini-bar and Tv. Breakfast is on the ground floor to the restaurant and it good. Good is also the dinner.
A very nice experience in the heart of Jordan.

Al Farah Hotel, and others of it's kind...: Downtown

    Hotel"

Hostels with dorms are pretty hard to come by and as a girl, not a very good idea. Al Farah hotel was hard to find and generic, but still worth going to. It has internet at a competitive price (with MSN), a courtyard with fountain and uncomfortable beds. No phones in rooms, no a/c, and broken tvs. Turkish toilets and 1 shower per floor. The staff are friendly, there is a working tv in the lounge and it is walking distance to the citadel, gold souk and Roman theatre. There are a lot of similar places around the downtown area. If you want my advice for a nice place, don't stay in a hotel downtown. All decent accomodation is elsewhere.

There's an argileh shop downstairs... tonnes of models to choose from and a knowledgeable staff. Next door is a decent bakery for breakfast and snack-type foods. They make a mean lemon juice.
Al Farah, like many of it's kind, allows travellers to sleep on the roof at a cheap price. Very nice in summer, but no security for personal items.

Alia Hotel: Just a few hours
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • My friend and I on our way back from Bangkok to Rome arrived at 5 am in Amman airport and we had to wait 5 hours for our flight to Rome. The Royal Jordanian company offered us to spend the stop over in a hotel near the airport free.
The day before some hotels in Amman were attacked by terrorists and many people died, so my friend, scared told me: are we crazy? Let's saty in the airport it is safer, and I:you know what? if we really have to die today, we'll die more confortable in a hotel room!
Infact everything was extremely safe, many controls at the airport, all the legguages opened before entering the hotel and metal detector at hotel lobby.

After 8 hours of flight even a simple room and a shower sound like unique qualities!

I stayed at the Marriott Amman for my trips to Amman in February 2007. The room had the typical comfortable Marriott interieur that you would find in Marriotts all over the world.

The internet access in the room is charged at JD 10.50 for 24 hours or JD 20 for 48 hours which I found quite expensive. The hotel itself has friendly staff and the restaurants are very good too.

    - Good variety at the Breakfast buffet
    - Champions Sports bar which gives you a typical pub like atmosphere.

Farah Hotel: Farah -- A Nightmare
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I don't have high expectations of cheap places to stay. In fact, I don't even mind a little dirt if a place is dirt cheap. But one must draw the line somewhere -- and perhaps it might be drawn at meeting the same feces smeared around the plumbing fixtures on the third day of one's stay? Or at beds so filthy that one didn't feel safe in one's sleeping bag?

What we found truly bizarre is that the Farah seems to get rave reviews from some -- we went there on a personal recommendation we were given in Damascus.

We never saw anyone doing any cleaning on our floor, and we stayed two nights. We found the staff unconscionably rude -- we had two serious arguments while there, one about what we thought was a rip-off on a tour they offered (they wanted us to pay the same amount even though we found more people), and another with a crazy woman who seemed to live in the lobby.

This is the only hotel from which we've ever actually fled, finding some very gloomy digs nearby (broken windows, no heat) -- and we were far happier at the ostensibly gloomier place. The Farah ruined Amman for us, and was the worst place we stayed on a four-month trip from Istanbul to Cairo. I've never written such a negative review of anything -- this place deserves it.

They show movies in the crowded, smoke-filled lobby every evening. There are loud, malodorous refrigerators on every floor. The television set in our room didn't work and the Internet in the lobby was out of order for the length of our stay.
